Nolan's Week — A Quick Recap
A short read on the week that was, so nothing gets lost between games.
A good week. Two garage sessions and a pair of games, and the quick release is starting to look automatic — pucks are getting off faster and catching goalies before they're set. The shot selection is coming; he still drifts to the perimeter when his legs get tired late.
- The release — catch-and-release and shoot-in-stride. Getting it off in one motion far more than before.
- Shot selection — get to home plate. Better, but the tired-legs perimeter shot still sneaks back.
- Off the puck — pass and go. One goal off a net drive after a pass — exactly the habit we're building.
The one-motion goal from the slot on Saturday. He caught it and shot it in the same beat, past the goalie before he set. A month ago that's a wind-up the goalie reads and stops.
- Keep the release reps first, before his legs are tired.
- One game where he commits to getting to the middle before every shot.
- A pre-game quick-release warmup before Saturday.
One thing to keep an eye on: before he shoots, do his eyes come up to the net first, or is he staring the puck onto his stick? And after he passes, do his feet keep moving? Those two are the tell for everything else.
