Jake’s goal worksheet

A real one, built for one basketball kid from everything the parent had shared. Nothing here is demo copy.

Goal Worksheet

Jake's Goals — Summer Into Fall

A working sheet, not a wish list. Each goal has a way to tell if it's actually happening — because a goal you can't measure is just a hope.

The big one

Finish lefty in traffic — in games, not just drills. Why it matters: it's the one thing a scouting defender can still take away. Everything else opens up once he has two hands at the rim.

  • How we'll know: a game where he finishes a contested left-hand layup and doesn't think twice about it.
  • This week: left-hand Mikan to open every session; if the drive goes left, he finishes left — no bailing right.

Skill goals

Add the pause to his game.

  • How we'll know: a defender bites on the hesitation and he blows by in a live game.
  • This week: cone-attack-with-hesitation as a warmup; change-of-pace reps where the slow is genuinely slow.

Sharpen the triple-threat stance.

  • How we'll know: he reads pass / shoot / drive before the defender's feet are set, not after.
  • This week: catch, one read, then attack — five reps a session.

The body goal

Lateral quickness on defense to match the offense.

  • How we'll know: he stays in front of a quicker matchup for a full possession.
  • This week: slide-and-recover between cones, reading hips not the ball.

The one that isn't a skill

Keep the attitude on the long, boring days.

  • How we'll know: a 70-minute driveway session in the heat that ends with a good attitude.
  • Nobody claps for this one. It's the habit underneath every other goal on the page.

Pick one target every time he trains, put a number on it, and chase it. Come back next time and try to beat it. The goals don't move — the evidence stacks up.
