Marcus's Week — A Quick Recap
A short read on the week that was, so nothing gets lost between games.
A good week. Two backyard sessions and a game, and his pad level is starting to look real — he's winning the leverage battle instead of getting stood up. The hands are coming; he still grabs when he gets tired late in the game.
- Pad level — stay-low drives. Getting under defenders far more than a month ago; low man wins.
- Hands — punch and lock. Landing inside cleaner; still late and grabby when he's gassed.
- Get-off — stance-and-get-off. Firing on the count, initiating instead of catching.
The drive block on the short-yardage play — fired out low, hands inside, drove his man three yards to spring the first down. The running back got the credit; Marcus made the play. That's the whole idea, and it's exactly what we'd drilled.
- Keep the pad-level work first — it's where his size becomes an advantage.
- One game where he commits to staying low on every single snap, even tired.
- Watch the film together and point out his blocks — he needs to be seen.
One thing to keep an eye on: off the snap, is he low and fast, or tall and slow? Does he stay under his man, or stand up? Do his hands land inside? And does he finish to the whistle? Those are the tell — and none of them are on the stat sheet, so you have to watch for them.
