Sofia’s pre-competition routine

A real one, built for one gymnastics kid from everything the parent had shared. Nothing here is demo copy.

Pre-Game Routine

Sofia's Pre-Meet Routine

The same sequence every meet — built so a fearless kid who gets nervous under the lights arrives calm and competes like she trains, instead of letting meet nerves turn practice hits into falls.

The night before

Leo, grips, hair things, snacks, warm layers packed. A real dinner, in bed early. A little calm visualization if she likes it, then let it go.

The morning of

A real breakfast that sits right, hydration starting early. Keep the house calm — gymnastics is a nervy sport and the calm starts at home, hours before she salutes.

Warm-up (at the meet)

  • Open stretch with a focus on tight shapes and pointed toes.
  • Event warm-ups as the meet structures them.
  • A couple of full routine run-throughs so beam feels familiar.

The physical warmup is the meet's; the mental warmup — calm, clean, familiar — is hers.

One focus, not five

Pick one thing to carry in — this season it's usually compete it like practice or clean form, stick it. One cue is a reminder; five is a lecture that spikes her nerves.

Between events

Warm, fueled, calm. A little visualization before beam — she's hit it a hundred times; this is just one more. The reset starts before the routine, not after a wobble.

The reset

After a fall, the cue is short: "One skill, next event." Her power and courage handle the gymnastics — the routine's job is to keep one fall from following her through the rest of the meet.

Why the sameness matters: Sofia is fearless in the gym and nervous at meets, and nerves are what turn her practice hits into falls. A routine she's run a hundred times makes the competition floor feel like an ordinary practice, so she competes the gymnast she actually is. That's the edge.
