Tessa's Week: A Quick Recap
A short look back at the week that was, so nothing gets lost between sessions.
A good week. Two club sessions, a Thursday open play, and a Saturday round robin, and the third-shot drop is starting to look like a real shot instead of an experiment. The patience at the kitchen line is coming; she still speeds up a low ball when the game gets close.
- The third shot: drops from the baseline. More of them are peaking on her side and landing in the kitchen.
- The transition zone: split, reset, step up. Better footwork, still rushing the last step to the line.
- The paddle tap: it held after a lost game in the round robin. Small, but that's the whole thing.
The point at 9-9 on Saturday: deep return, she dropped it instead of driving it, walked up behind it, and won the hands battle at the line. A month ago that's a drive into the other team's paddles.
- Keep the drops first, before she's tired.
- One set where she can only attack balls above the net.
- Two rest days, since tennis picks up again this week.
One thing to keep an eye on: when the score gets close, does she still choose the soft shot, or does the drive come back? The choice on a tight point is the tell for everything else.
