The read
Cade is a 12-year-old folkstyle wrestler at 95 pounds for Steel Valley WC — strong, athletic, and genuinely tough, the kind of kid who competes hard every match. The gap this season has been that he's one-dimensional, and good opponents have figured it out. He's got one good shot, a double-leg, but no setups to get to it, so wrestlers who've scouted him just sprawl and stuff it; on the bottom he can't get away, so he gets ridden out and loses the position battle; and in the third period, when he's tired or behind, he gets frustrated and stops wrestling. The season's work went straight at those three, and he's turning into a wrestler who can score from every position.
Goals
Cade is working to become a wrestler who can score from every position instead of a one-shot athlete. Specifically: setups and a second attack so his takedowns land even against kids who've scouted him, a reliable way off the bottom (the stand-up) so he stops getting ridden out, and the mental and physical conditioning to wrestle a hard third period instead of fading or getting frustrated. The strength and the toughness are already there; this season is about the technique and the mindset that turn a strong kid into a complete wrestler.
