Cheer Jumps Practice Plan for 9 and 10 Year Olds

At 9 and 10, cheer jumps gain their FAMILY: the approach with real power (the swing's snap arriving), the TOE TOUCH's honest beginnings (legs to their gardens' truth, chest tall: the sport's signature at its patient start), T-JUMPS (the tuck's cousin: knees up, arms T), and landing STANDARDS (glued, silent, knees soft: graded now).

This session runs about 45 minutes with the flexibility file's gardens as partners (toe touches spend straddle range). Heights and splits stay honest (chest-tall beats legs-high-chest-dropped: the form law), jumps count in rested sets, and the gym's stunting world stays entirely the gym's.

Practice Plan

Backyard Session: The Jump Family Arrives

The toe touch begins at its honest truth, T-jumps join, and landings earn their grades. Chest tall rules everything; the gardens set the heights.

Warmup · 5 minutes

Spirit Ramp

Duration5 minEquipmentcarpet or grass

Bounces, approach rituals easy, straddle sits (the garden visiting), ankle circles. The family's house warms.

Coaching Cue

Cue: "Ritual and gardens. The family arrives today."

Block 1: Approach Power · 12 minutes

Snap Swings

Duration6 minEquipmentnone

The ritual's power: approaches with the swing SNAPPING (arms whipping down-back-up, the knees' bend timing it), five power rituals into straight jumps, height arriving from snap not strain. The engine's tune-up.

Coaching Cue

Cue: "Whip the swing, ride it up. Snap is the engine."

T-Jumps

Duration6 minEquipmentnone

The new cousin: the ritual into T-jumps (knees driving up, arms snapping to T, chest TALL), five with rests, landings glued and graded. The tuck family's home version, form-first.

Coaching Cue

Cue: "Knees to the sky, chest to the crowd. T for tall."

Block 2: The Signature's Start · 15 minutes

Honest Toe Touches

Duration15 minEquipmentcarpet or grass

The sport's jump at its truth: approach, legs rising toward straddle AT THEIR GARDENS' HEIGHT (whatever today's straddle allows: the honest law), toes pointed, chest TALL (the form king: dropped chests fake height and bill backs), arms in T or touching toward toes as reach allows, landing glued. Five jumps, rest, five more, form graded over height eternally.

Coaching Cue

Cue: "Legs to their truth, chest to the sky. The gardens raise the legs; nothing else does."

Block 3: Landing Grades · 8 minutes

The Glue Standards

Duration8 minEquipmentcarpet

Landing's dedicated block: jumps of choice with landings graded (feet together, knees soft, silent, the stick held a beat), the ear test visiting (blind-listened landings called), five graded jumps. Cheer's landings are teammates' safety culture in embryo; the grades build it.

Coaching Cue

Cue: "Glued, soft, silent, stuck. The landing is the jump's signature."

Finish · 5 minutes

Eight-Count Show

Duration5 minEquipmentmusic optional

An eight-count with the family (approach, toe touch, T-jump, spirit finish), performed twice, roared. The book takes jump counts and form notes flatly.

Coaching Cue

Cue: "Family on eight counts. Perform and book it."

What to watch today: the chest's drop chasing leg height. The toe touch's universal fake (chest collapsing forward to meet legs) flatters photos and bills backs while building nothing: the chest-tall law with gardens-honest legs is the real road. Straddle gardens raise toe touches; nothing else does, and the patient version wins every tryout that matters.

Common questions

What makes a toe touch honest at this age?

Legs at the straddle garden's current truth with the chest TALL: the form that builds. The chest-drop fake (folding forward to meet legs) photographs higher and develops nothing but back complaints: judges read chests first anyway. Gardens plus approach power raise real toe touches on their schedule.

How do cheer jumps and the flexibility file work together?

As garden and spender: straddle and pike ranges (the flexibility file's work) set each jump's honest heights, and jump sessions visit the gardens in warmups. The pairing is the sport's open secret: toe touches are straddles with an approach, and both files log the same truth.

How many jumps per session are right?

Rested sets totaling fifteen-to-twenty quality jumps: the approach's power and landings' grades survive exactly that volume at this age. Jump volume beyond quality builds neither height nor habits: the sets' rests are where the springs recharge and the form survives.
