Layla's Week — A Quick Recap
A short read on the week that was, so nothing gets lost between competitions.
A good week. Studio classes plus home work in front of the mirror, and she's starting to perform bigger — projecting and using her face instead of dancing small. The turns are steadying; her single is clean and reliable, the double still falls out when she rushes the spot.
- Performing — dance-to-the-back-row run-throughs. Bigger, more committed, using her facials far more than a month ago.
- Turns — spot, relevé, center. Clean singles are solid; doubles better when she doesn't rush.
- Consistency — one-shot run-throughs. Danced through a wobble instead of stopping — exactly the habit we're building.
The full-out run-through at the end of class — she projected, committed to the emotion, danced to the back row. Same clean steps, but performed, which is what scores. That's the whole idea.
- Keep the full-out performing front and center — the biggest score jump she's got.
- Clean singles before doubles every turn session; sharp spot, don't rush.
- Visualization before the next competition — perform it full-out in her head first.
One thing to keep an eye on: is she performing full-out — projecting, using her face — or dancing small and safe? Are her turns clean on the fundamentals? And does she perform through a wobble? Those are the tell for everything else.
