Martial Arts Flexibility & Conditioning Practice Plan for 11 and 12 Year Olds

At 11 and 12, the engine meets the modern method: ACTIVE kick flexibility (slow controlled raises beside the gardens' holds: the ranges kicks actually use), core ENDURANCE (the press laddering), stance-strength CIRCUITS (the art's legs built in its shapes), and the growth spurt's narration (tight weeks as weather, gentleness doubled).

This session runs about an hour. The active-passive pairing rules the flexibility (reach gently, then lift into it: the kicks' own arithmetic), circuits take the art's shapes (stance holds, animal flows), and the school's program remains the sovereign frame home structures around.

Practice Plan

Home Session: The Modern Method

Active raises join the gardens, the press learns endurance, and circuits wear the art's shapes. Growth's weather gets its narration.

Warmup · 10 minutes

Bow and Full Ramp

Duration10 minEquipmentcarpet

Bow, animals, circles, garden visits easy, two chamber holds. The method's bench.

Coaching Cue

Cue: "Bow. The modern method today."

Block 1: Active Gardens · 20 minutes

Paired Kick Ranges

Duration20 minEquipmentcarpet, chair optional

The pairing per range: the lunge-half-slide gates (gently, weather logged) THEN slow controlled leg raises to the front and side (five per direction per leg, the chamber's height honest, chair steadying): reach it, then lift into it. The kicks' active arithmetic, weekly.

Coaching Cue

Cue: "Visit gently, lift honestly. Kicks spend the active inches only."

Block 2: The Banks' Ladders · 20 minutes

Press Endurance

Duration10 minEquipmentcarpet

The core's ladders: hollow holds climbing (fifteen, twenty, twenty-five seconds), rocks between, side planks (twenty per side), bird-dogs slow. The strikes' bank learns endurance.

Coaching Cue

Cue: "Climb the press. Strikes borrow long now."

Stance-Strength Circuits

Duration10 minEquipmentcarpet

The art's legs: stance holds (the style's, thirty seconds), lateral lunges (slow, five per side), the stance-to-stance walking loaded (slow-motion travel, one length), animal flows linking (bear-to-crab transitions). Strength in the shapes the art spends.

Coaching Cue

Cue: "Strong in the style's own shapes. The legs pay its rent."

Block 3: The School's Doses · 10 minutes

Prescribed Sets, Structured

Duration10 minEquipmentcarpet

The dojo's conditioning in home's structure: its exercises at taught forms, sets counted and rested, quality absolute, logged. Where schools assign kick-counts or test-prep numbers, they slot here sovereignly.

Coaching Cue

Cue: "Its exercises, our structure, quality's gates. The frame serves."

Finish · 0 minutes

Bow and Book

Durationinside closeEquipmentthe log

The book (pairs, ladders, circuits, doses), the closing bow. The method files.

Coaching Cue

Cue: "Book the method, bow it closed."

What to watch today: the active raises' honesty. The lifted leg's height is strength's truth (hip-hiking and leaning borrow inches the kicks cannot keep), and the flat log protects it: honest raises compound into kicks; borrowed ones evaporate at the dojo. The modern method's whole value rides the honesty.

Common questions

What is active kick flexibility versus the gardens?

The using half: gardens open ranges (passive holds) while slow controlled raises build the strength to kick INTO them: the pairing the modern method runs on. Kicks spend only active inches: the raises' honest heights, logged flat, are the account the taught kicks draw against.

Why circuits in the art's shapes over general exercise?

Transfer: stance holds, loaded style-walking, and animal flows strengthen exactly what classes and tests spend, while generic circuits build adjacent fitness. The art-shaped hour compounds visibly in the dojo: instructors read it in stances within weeks. General athleticism's additions stay welcome seasoning.

How does the growth spurt change the engine work?

Gardens gentle and narrate (tight weeks as weather, maintenance as winning), raises' heights get honest patience, circuits trim automatically, and the school hears about big spurts (instructors adjust kindly). The engine idles through storms; it never fights them.
