Hey Sydney —
Here's the picture of what you're building this season.
You have an arm that most players would trade anything for — when you connect, the point is over. That's real, and it's rare. So let's be clear about what this season is actually about: it's not your swing. Your swing is a weapon. It's about making that weapon show up every rotation instead of just on the highlight plays — through a repeatable approach, a steady pass, and staying you when things go sideways.
- Your arm is a genuine weapon. When you meet the ball high, nobody on the other side has an answer. Power like that can't be coached.
- You want the big swing. In the biggest moment, you want the ball, and that competitiveness is something a lot of players never develop.
- You're explosive to the ball when your timing's right — the athleticism is there.
- Your high-point hitting is coming along, and it's turning swings that used to get blocked or netted into kills.
One thing to focus on this week
Trust your approach, even when the pass is a little off. Most of your hitting errors aren't your arm — they're your timing, being early or late to the set. So make the approach the same every single time: slow, slow, quick-quick, and rise to meet the ball at the top. When your feet are consistent, your arm gets to do what it already does well. Consistency isn't the boring opposite of your power — it's what lets your power show up every time.
The footwork reps without a ball, the serve-receive to a target, resetting after an error — none of it is glamorous. It won't feel like it's adding up. It is. The outside hitter who's unstoppable next season is the one who made her weapon reliable this year. You already have the arm. This season is about making it show up every rotation, and staying level so it does. Keep going.
